-
Rinse vase, rock, and plant before beginning.
It is important to get all dirt out of the plants roots before
placing it in the vase.
-
Cut a hole in the bottom of the plastic cup just large enough to fit
the plant root. Gently work the plant roots through the hole and set
aside.
-
Place a 1-2 layer of decorative rock in the bottom of the vase. Fill
the vase with room temperature bottled (not distilled) water to 1 below
the neck of the vase. Be very careful to leave 1 of air for the betta
to breathe.
-
Gently net the betta from the bag and add to the vase of water.
-
Place the plastic cup with the plant in the vase. Place
decorative rock in the cup to stabilize the plant. Add a bow around neck of vase.
-
Fish care: Dont forget about your
fish. It is a living thing. Keep the vase in a warm room away from drafts. Be certain to
leave 1 of air space in the vase as the betta needs to breathe from
the water surface.
-
If you choose to use tap water a water treatment must be added. This
will neutralize heavy metals and remove chlorine and also reduce fish stress.
-
Feed specially formulated betta food, dried bloodworms,
or brine shrimp at least 3-4 times per week. Be careful not to overfeed as it will result in
polluted water. Contrary to popular belief, bettas cannot live
eating just the plant's roots.
-
Put only one betta in a vase. They are Chinese fighting fish and will kill one
another in the same vase.
